Sixty-seven people killed in 129 accidents during the five-day holiday

HÀ NỘI — A total of  一 二 九 traffic accidents occurred across Việt Nam during the five-day national holiday from April  二 九 to May  三, killing  六 七 people and injuring  九0 others, according to the Traffic Police Department.

The figures represented decreases of  六. 五 per cent,  六. 九 per cent and  一 五. 一 per cent, respectively.

On the nation's roads,  一 二 五 accidents claimed  六 四 lives and injured  九0 others. Meanwhile, three people were killed in four railway accidents.

Over the holiday, traffic policemen nationwide punished more than  四 九, 三00 violation cases with fines totalling VNĐ 一0 七. 六 billion (US$ 四. 五 八 million); and seized  八 四 七 automobiles,  二0,0 六 七 motorbikes, and  二 一0 other vehicles; and withdrew  一 一,0 三 三 driving licences.

Most offences involved drink-driving ( 一 五, 八 五 二 cases), speeding ( 一0, 六 四 九 cases), overloaded freights ( 四 八 九 cases), drugs ( 三 三 cases), and transporting more people than allowed ( 八 六 七 cases).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s Department of Medical Service Administration said that in four days, from  七am on April  二 九 to  七am on May  三, medical examination and treatment establishments nationwide examined and provided first aid for  二 七0,0 三 一 people; more than  九 九, 七00 were hospitalised.

It noted that nothing is out of the ordinary with the traffic accident victims in the holiday this year. The number of deaths from traffic accidents was reported at  八 二, with  二 八 passing at medical institutions,  三 四 dead on the way to the hospitals, and  二0 expected deaths at home.

Hospitals across the country received about  二, 四 七 七 COVID- 一 九 patients through the holiday;  一 七 deaths were recorded, with seven dead at medical institutions and ten expected deaths at home (following death prognosis);  一, 六 八 四 people were discharged from the hospitals after recovery. — VNS
